When your water tank becomes full of water it will become
very heavy. A 3000L slimline water tank full of water weighs 3 tonnes this
is more than the average family car. If a water tank is not properly installed it can become full of water and fall over. Water tanks, in particular slimlines, must be positioned on a solid level concrete base that it is not concave or convex, dips in or mounds out, or on a base that slopes in any direction, they must be on a solid level concrete base. The slimline tanks must also be positioned 10-15cm (4-6 inches) away from your wall or fence and placed in a position where they will not experience heavy knocks or bumps. Do not allow children to play on or around your tank. A slimline water tank will swell slightly at the bottom when it is full and a bit more when it is hot. Your concrete slab needs to be a minimum of 10-15cm (4-6
inches) wider and longer than your water tank and a minimum 10cm (4 inches)
thick. If you have a plumber install your water tanks please provide them with this information. You should personally ensure that your tanks are being installed correctly as not all plumbers know how to install slimline water tanks correctly. |

| Common Mistakes | |
|
1. Tanks are placed on unlevel pathways
around houses or sheds. These pathways are often running up or down hill and sloped to drain water away from buildings. A small slope will cause the tank to lean over by several inches (10+cms) and if the tank is installed hard against the wall, when it swells at the base as it becomes full of water and swells a bit more when it is hot, this combination of the tank pressing against the wall and leaning down a slope can cause the tank to fall over. 2. Tanks are placed on too small a slab with tank installed hard against wall with no room to expand. 3. Tanks placed on uneven ground,
pavers, soil, sand, pebbles, gravel, garden beds. 4. Tanks are positioned by eye. |
